The conflict of the story is that Gaea is reawakening and will destroy the world if not stopped. She has her evil giant minions to try and reawaken her, but it doesn't mean that they will succeed. -

The Mark of Athena
This book is about 7 demigods who go on the Quest of 7 to halt the rising of and eventually destroy the Earth Goddess Gaea. They face a series of challenges such as the Romans, giant sea creatures, gods, demigods, and other mythical creatures. They must save the world from destruction-by-Gaea. -
Setting #1
Camp Jupiter (Oakland Hill, CA):
The quest's warship, the Argo II, was commanded by Leo, the creator of the vessel. He was possesed by an eidilon, which caused him to fire the ship's ballistae at the Roman Camp. This cause the Romans to want to go into a demi-god civil war between the camps. -

Not-So-Minor Conflict
The second major conflict of the story is that the Romans are mad at the Greeks for destroying part of New Rome, and want to go to war. They try to stop the Greeks from getting to the ancient land, not because they support Gaea, but because they want to kill the Greeks. as the 7 go to Rome, the Romans plan to attack Camp Half-Blood. -
Rising Action #1
The three girls aboard the ship go into Charleston to meet up with a "ghost", who turns out to be Venus/Aphrodite, and talk. Frank, Jason, and Leo went to a museum to talk to some ghosts, which didn't turn out to well, as to they were chased out by them. Percy went into the harbor to do sea-demigod things. Here, the Romans catch up to them and they fight at Fort Sumter, where Annabeth finds an important clue for the Mark of Athena. -
Setting #2
Charleston, SC
This is where the Romans cath up to the 7. Reyna and Annabeth talk, and as Annabeth was going to convince her, a fight broke out. Annabeth finds a silver disk the size of a small plate, to help guide her on her journey to the Mark of Athena. -
Rising Action #2
The 7 meet Heracles/Hercules at the mouth of the Mare Nostrum (Mediterranean Sea), who allows them to enter the Ancient Lands. On one condition. Jason and Piper must go into the magical island they were on and take the one remaining horn of the river god Achelous. They were to get the horn and bring to Hercules by sunset or they would all die. They return the horn, but trick Hercules and stall him long enough to escape with the horn (cornucopia). They then enter the Ancient Lands. With a horn. -
Setting #3
Mediterranean Sea:
This is where the demi-gods were able to come up with a big enough sacrifice to Bacchus (Dionysis) so he would help them defeat the giants. They had to sacrifice: 1) a ship full of Diet Coke & 2) 6 million dollars in gold coins. -
Setting #4
Roma, Italy:
This is where the important action during the quest took place. Annabeth went her seperate way to follow the Mark of Athena, and the others went to defeat the giant twins Otis & Ephialtes, while saving Nico de'Angelo. The remaining 6 split up after time. Jason, Percy, and Piper go to defeat the giants. Hazel, Frank, and Leo go off into Rome. -
Rising Action #3
Annabeth and Percy have lunch together at the Tiber River, where Tiberinus and Rhea Silvia come to take Annabeth to the beginning of her solo journey. Percy is left alone at the cafe. While this happens, Hazel, Frank, and Leo go into a museum where three tourists are possesed by eidilons. The three demigods go down a secret tunnel, and find Archimedes' workshop. They barely escape with their lives, and trapped the eidilons there too. -
Rising Action #4
Percy, Jason, and Piper go through a series of tests to get to the giant twins. They travel underground for a while, and almost get killed. They almost died by being drowned (Percy can't, right?) in magical water that was controlled by old nymphs. The three used the cornucopia to produce much fresh water to cancel out the bad, so the nymphs had been cleaned and renewed by the fresh water and let them go. -
Major Climax
Percy, Jason, and Piper find the giants' lair and find Nico in the Jar of Death that is suffocating him. The two boys attack the giants, without a god, while Piper goes and free Nico of his bronze death-prison. Bacchus shows up with a pinecone on a stick, and decides to help defeat the giants. He creates a grand Coliseum where Percy and Jason bring the giants down, and then Bacchus defeats them once-and-for-all. -
Not-So-Minor Climax
Annabeth goes to Arachne's lair (Arachne is a spider-woman) where she tricks her into weaving something rediculous. A giant Chinese finger-trap. Annabeth tricks her into getting trapped in the weave. Annabeth's friends come in and help take the Athena Parthenos, a giant statue stolen by the Romans that caused the hatred, but destroy the cavern they are in, which drops to Tartarus. Annabeth and Percy fall into Tartarus, while the others fly to Epirus. -
Falling Action #1
The ccavern they were in with the Athena Parthenos starts to crumble and fall into Tartarus. Percy and Annabeth are dragged in, while the others are able to take the Athena Parthenos away and save themselves. -
Resolution
Percy and Annabeth are falling for and with each other (literally falling) while the other 5, and Coach Hedge, fly to return the Athena Parthenos to Camp Half-Blood to stop the demigod civil war. They will then head to Epirus to close the mortal Doors of Death, while Percy and Annabeth travel through Tartarus to close their side of the Door sof Death.
