Fearing that the new deal will leave behind African-American workers, Asa Phillip Randolph, founder of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car porters, (the first African labor union) begins developing and proposing a march on Washington. -

Randolph calls for a march on Washington to end segregation in the armed forces. in a panic, Roosevelt issues Executive Order 8802, Desegregating the armed forces. The march was called off. -
