The lottery

  • Children meeting

The children all met in a little corner and gathered rocks which was sort of foreshadowing for later in the story
  • Social life

All the men and women get together separately and talk about their daily lives and what they do in their everyday life.
  • Black box

Mr. Summers comes out with the old worn down black box and checks to see if everyone is ready for the lottery to begin.
  • Mrs.Hutchinson

Tessie shows up just before it starts forgetting that it was the day of the lottery and was worried that she missed such an important day for the town.
  • Procedure of the lottery

Mr.Summers goes over the process of the lottery and who is drawing for who and how they are going to do it. They did not tell what the paper was going to look like for the “winner.”
  • Winning family

After all the men in the families had drawn, they opened the slips of paper to see what family was the winner. The Hutchinson were the lucky ones that day.
  • Redraw

They then had the Hutchinson family draw again to see who in that family would be the overall winner in the family.
  • Winner

After all the Hutchinson family members drew a paper they each opened there’s to find out that it was Mrs.Hutchinson who was the winner of the lottery in the town.
  • The stoning

The prize was being stoned by the villagers as a “sacrifice” for the village, even though at this point in time they don’t really know why they keep the tradition going.
