War Of Devolution
In 1667 Louis XIV had the French army attack and invade the Spanish Netherlands claiming that it was his wife's inheritance. He eventually gave the land back to the Spanish after pressure from England, Sweden and Holland/Dutch Netherlands it put his subjects under a lot of stress and major debt that they would have to pay for. Revoking of Edict of Nantes
allowed French Protestants to free practice and other rights. Louis XIV revoked this edict and ordered the destruction of Protestant churches, the shut down of Protestant schools and the expulsion of Protestant clergy. Protestants would be not allowed to assemble and their marriages would be invalid or revoked. There was about 1 million Protestants in France and many of them were skilled workers. The revoking of the edict made many of them leave France. -
Death
The man known as the Sun King died in his palace of Versailles left a lasting impact on France both postively and negatively.
