Education, Persecution and Running
In this time Constantine had a great education in the court of Diocletian learning both Greek and Latin. He witnessed the persecution of Diocletian and the murder of many Christians. Then he was running from Galerius and fled to Gaul to flight along side his father. He and his father began conquering and expanding. His reputation built as being a good leader and he stopped the persecution of Christians. -

Civil War
Galerius dying resulted in a competition among lots of powerful men, all wanting to rule to Roman Empire. Then Maxentius a citizen of Rome declared himself Emperor. He took full control of Italy and Rome. Constantine wasn't happy and decided to march against Maxentius with his army. -

Inside Constantine's Head
Constantine approached Rome with plenty of reason to worry as his army was half the size Maxentius'. In the night Constantine had a dream where he was told that he and his army would win the battle, but only if they fought under the Christian Cross. He listened to the voice in his head and the dominated the fight and took control. -

Constantine Becomes a Christian
He formed an alliance with Licinius in the east. They signed the Edict of Milan stating that christians would no longer be persecuted in the Roman Empire. He then declared himself a christian follower. -

Emperor of All of Rome
Lincinius decided to renew the persecution of christians. Constanine did not like this and marched against Lincinius. Constantine won after many battles and became the ruler of a united Rome. -
Period: 324 to 330
Building Rome
Constantine built many structures including a giant basilica to hold more people. He also built the Arch of Constantine to celebrate hi victory over Maxentius. -

Constantinople
Constantine established a new capital of the Roman Empire called Constantinople. It then went on to become the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire. It was the largest and richest city during the middle ages. -

Death
Constantine continued to rule until he died from and illness. He was buried in the Church of the Holy Apostles in Constantinople.
