National Park service Ranger Randy Morgenson was an expert in forestry search and rescue and just about anything to do with the mountains in the summer of 1996 randy went on a three day patrol mission three days later randy was nowhere to be found one of the best park rangers was missing himself. The first 60 pages also gave some insight on the amazing life that Randy lead and some reasons why he went missing like the roughpatch he was having with his wife and his experiences in the peacecore. -

Many senior officers are becoming involved in Randys case chief ranger debbie Bird has launched an all out search and rescue for Randy. but the book also talks about how whole planes have gone missing in the sierras without a trace. Randys wife was alerted of the situation along with many of Randys oldest friends. It also talks about more of randys past including trying to stop riots in the summer of love and the winter he spent in solitude with his wife. -

This part of the book talked about how randy had bought a home in northern california close to the mountains and loved it he met many friends here. Also two of randys fellow rangers and friends are searching for him in one of Randys favorite places, Marion Lake. -

Randys fellow rangers Durkee and Lyness searched one of the most likely areas for Randy to be the lake basin area but they found few clues and when they brought the search dog in he only led them on a wild goose chase this along with multiple othere areas was taken off the high probability search areas. -

special ranger DeLaCruz came into the search to examine other things that may have come into play in Randys dissapearence like foul play. The story also tells of the time Randy lost his dad and what a terrible loss it was for him his mother and much of the yosemite valley. -

The boook tells of randys career as a photographer photographing everything from plants to low flying airplanes and how he met one of his best frien ds through this art, stuart scoffield who taught photography clinics with randy up until the summer before he dissapeared. -

the book chronicles letters sent to the nps on account of randys great work as a ranger. This part of the book also recounts to particularly bad search and rescue missions where 1 almnost to people died in 2 days. -

The search is still on for Randy and mant new theorys of what may have occured are now crossing park rangers minds could have randy left the park fallen into the river or be evading searchers. Many of Randys friends who are also park rangers are involved in the SAR and are begginning to truely worry for Randy's life. The book also recounts the time Randy had a run in with a hiker who hated all Rangers even though Randy and others helped save his life 10 years earlier. -

At the end of the summer of 1995 Randy began his wilderness decompression by going to visit his old friend Stuart Scofield they talked about the usual photography, adn the new subject of Randys unusual doubts about his relationship with Judi. Throughout that winter their relationship began to faulter when people including judi found out about an affair Randy had with a fellow park ranger lyyness in 1996 judi sent Randy into the backcoun try with divorce papers. -

After the number of SAR members increased from about 50 people to over a hundred and there was still no luck finding him optimism began to fall.members of the SAR team began to search many areas outside of Randy's norm area including a place that to some is known as thye gorge of death to no prevail. 13 days after Randys last contacts with other rangers chief Ranger Bird decided to call off the search.Many people were heartbroken and Counciling was given to those in need -

Near the end of the summer of 1996 Judi recieved a letter that said Randy had contacted the court saying he did not want a divorce she immediatley called special agent DeLacruz considering Randy was supposed to be dead in the backcountry this was later solved the letter was given to someone else to mail. Ther were any other strange leads but nothing ever came of them. The next winter a memorial service was held for Randy in the park, there was still nothing that pointed to anything Randy. -

the search was temporarirly back on when judi visited the park still nothing was found over the next two years Judi fought courts to try to get some sort of pay she finally recieved 100,000 dollars. 5 years after Randy dissapeared the first real clues popped up somewhere around Pyramid creek a backpack shorts and a coffe mug popped up a group of ccc in the same area also found a hiking boot with bones around it, after a search team scowered the area they found more it was Randy. -

Today many of the Ranger who worked on Randys SAR are still working with the National Park Service every year there are still many people who go missing in the Sierras and often are never found but none hit home like Randy who still lives on in tyhe hearts of everyone that he knew worked with and helped.Judi Morgenson now lives in sedona Arizona she has not remarried since Randys death.
