The Great Leap Forward
Mao established communes, shared farms with thousands of live-in workers, to act as factories that would increase the productivity. At first the communes were a success but soon they started to fail. Each commune had to produce it's own food and many couldn't keep up and the people started to starve. -
Cultural Revolution
Mao Zedong, to get rid of "enemies of the state", started the Red Guard.They were militant students who would rat out the people were considered Intellectuals-artists,business leaders, etc.-and they would be executed. He also shut down all the schools. -
Mao Zedong's Death
He died of Parkinson's disease. -
Tiananmen Square Massacre
Thousands of students flooded to Tiananmen Square,Beijing to protest and demand democratic rights and reforms.Goverment Leaders asked them to leave but the protesters refused. Tanks were called and they fired on the thousands.The death toll was never confirmed.The Communist Party of China(CPC) tried their best to cover up the incident. Even going as far as to censor the word massacre on the internet.
