Amir is born
Amir is the main character in the book "The Kite Runner". In the beginning of the novel, Amir is most hated because he is seen as a coward and his attitude is unlikable. Later in the book, Amir is more likeable because his character changes from being a coward to standing up for himself and for what is right. -
Hassan is born
Hassan is born one year after Amir was. Hassan is a generous, harmless, Hazara and the half-brother of Amir. Coincidentally, Hassan's first word was "Amir" and he was born smiling but with a cleft-lip. -
Orphanage
To redeem himself after doing wrong, Baba tries to deal with everybody else's problem. One of the ways Baba tried to redeem himself was to build an orphanage because Ali was an orphan and he wanted somebody to be supported by an orphanage so little kids wouldn't be homeless. -
Baba's Second Half
Baba wanted Amir to be more like him, so Baba signed Amir to play soccer. Amir didn't get the ball passed to him because of his looks and he was always in the way of a good pass and goal. Baba disapproves of Amir and is disappointed that his son is nothing like him and isn't the least manly, whcih is what he was missing at the time. -
A Change in Afghanistan
The king, Zahir Shah was away in Italy and his cousin Daoud Khan ended the king's 40 year reign over Kabul. Kabul was no longer a monarchy and turned into a republic after the night of July 17, 1973. -
The Surgery
On Hassan's birthday, Baba had a surprise for Hassan. It was one of the ebst gifts that was given to Hassan: a surgery to fix his cleft lip. Hassan was grateful and smiled for the first time with his new mouth-- except that was the last time he would ever smile in the winter. -
The Kite Fight
Kite Fighting Video The kite fighting in the novel was a misfortunate event. Amir was able to defeat the last competitor in the competition-- the blue kite. Hassan was the kite runner and was able to retrieve the blue kite, but was confronted by Assef, who ended up molesting Hassan after he refused to give Assef the blue kite. From this day on, Hassan was depressed and never smiled again. -
The Party Disaster
On this day, Baba decided to throw a party for Amir's 13th birthday, inviting everyone that he knows. Hassan, being a Hazara, was supposed to go around and make sure everything was going smoothly, which didn't quite happen. Assef ended up showing up, and the sky being pitch black and the only source of light are from fireworks, Amir saw Hassan get beat up by Assef. Later that year, Ali and Hassan leave Amir and Baba. -
New Life
Baba and Amir have finally started a new life in Fermont, California. THe trip to reach America was difficult and emotional, and there were loads of obstacles to go over, such as the set up of a bus being broken down and a Russian getting to close to raping a woman. Amir and Baba have to bury their memories of Afghanistan into the new atmosphere of America. -
Graduation
Amir graduates high school at the age of 20, being the eldest classmate in his school. With a new education, Amir would be able to build up his life in America and adapt to his new home easier compared to Baba. -
The Flea Market
To make more money, Baba and Amir go to the flea market and buy used objects from other people and sell that for a higher price. In the flea market, Baba and Amir are around the Afghan people who know Baba well enough and still talk about gossip. -
Meeting Soraya
Women's Rights in Afghanistan Amir gets to meet Soraya for the first time and has a short conversation with her about how he is doing and about books. Soraya is known for her unwise mistake and is still haunted by what she did. But Amir ends up developing a crush and talking to her behind her dad's back at the flea market. -
Cancer Issue
Baba starts to cough blood and later is taken to a doctor to figure what's his condition. It turns out Baba has a type of cancer called "Oat Cell Carcinoma". Amir tries to convince Baba to try to go through chemotherapy but Baba refuses to use any medication for an illness that is only going to prolong the outcome: death. -
The Marriage
Amir asks Baba to talk to Soraya's dad to see if he's allowed to marry her. After 6 months,they get married to each other and end up having the wedding as soon as possible before Baba dies. Sadly, a month after the weddin, Baba doesn't take the medication pills and goes to sleep, never to wake up again. -
The Book
After being praised for how amazing Amir writes, he tries to pursue his dream of becoming a writer. After years of practice, Amir finally has written his first book. -
Publishing a Book
Six weeks after his first book, Amir has finally been able to publish his first book. He was discovered by a man named Martin Greenwalt from New York and offered to present him. In honor of this achievement, there was a celebration dinner with Soraya's parents: Khala Jamila and General Taheri. -
Sanaubar Returns
One day, when Farzana was pregnant, a woman came up to Hassan's house and demanded to see him, and the woman was wounded badly. This woman turned out to be the mother of Hassan and she was there to delvier Farzana's baby, was able to carry Sohrab, and apologize to Hassan for abandoning him. -
Amir and Soraya's Attempt
Soraya and Amir try to have a baby after Soraya says she's always wanted to have a baby and teach her everything that she knows. Amir and Soraya try, but it turns out that Soraya can't make a baby, which leaves her depressed for a while. -
Sohrab's Suicide Attempt
After Sohrab is tortured by Assef and has been through bad experiences, he never wants to go to another orphanage again. Amir tries to sort out a way to bring Sohrab with him to America, and the only available option was to send him back to an orphanage, which Amir promised he wouldnt do to him. Amir tells Sohrab this and Sohrab goes into the shower and uses the razor to cut himself to death. It is later found out that Sohrab would be able to go to America without this step, but it was too late. -
Back To Pakistan
Amir gets a phone call from Rahim Khan to go to Pakistan because he needs to see Amir one last time. When Amir reaches Pakistan, Rahim Khan explains what happens in Kabul and reveals that hassan got married and had a boy named Sohrab who needs to be saved from the Taliban whom killed Hassan and his wife, Farzana. Amir only does the favor that Rahim Khan asked for to redeem Baba, himself, and for his half-brother, Hassan. -
Sohrab and Amir's Kite
After getting back into Amir and settling down, Amir, Sohrab, and Soraya go to the park and see people out with their kites. Amir tries one last time to connect to Sohrab and tries to teach him about kite fighting and tells him that Hassan was the best kite runner there ever was. Sohrab finally smiles for the first time in years, and Amir runs to catch a kite that Sohrab had beaten saying,"For you, a thousand times over."
