  • Hassan’s birth

    This marks the birth of Amir's best friend and brother, highliting the importance of Hassan to the story

  • Hassan’s surgery

    This is important symbolcally to show that Baba cared for Hassan and may have felt guilty for not telling anyone that he's his son

  • Amir wins the kite contest

    This is important because it is when Amir feels that he has pleased Baba

  • Hassan’s rape

    This is the start of all of the problems in the story, the turning point

  • Amir’s 13th birthday party

    This is when a lot of the conflict between Amir and Hassan comes out

  • Amir and Baba come to San Francisco

    This is when they start their lives in America

  • Amir graduates from high school

    This is when Amir decides what he wants to do and has conflict with his father, because Baba wants him to become a doctor

  • Amir and Soraya marry

    This is a high point in Amir's life, but also sad because Baba is dying

  • Hassan’s mother, Sanaubar, returns

    This is important because it is when it becomes real to Amir that Hassan is his brother
