When Amir was born
This was the year that Hassan and Amir were first born. Amir’s first words were Baba and Hassan’s were Amir. Sanaubar was Hassan mother who left him a week after he was born and Amir’s mother was Sofia Akrami who died during child birth. This place a big part in Amir’s life because he will never receive the love and the tenderness from his mother. This is something that Amir will be aching for. -
The incident
During this year Amir won the kite competition with the help of Hassan. Amir finally thought that his dad will be proud of him for once in his life, which made him very happy. But everything good comes to an end, when Amir witness Hassan being raped in the alley way by Assef. Amir was a coward for not defending Hassan. He was arrogant and he only thought about himself and because it will haunt Amir for the rest of his life. -
Amir leaving Afghanistan
This was the year that Amir saw Hassan and Ali for the last time before they left. Amir wasn’t able to keep his guilt of witnessing of what had happen to Hassan in the alley way so he decided that it was time for either him or Hassan to leave so he could live his life in peace without his guilt torturing him. So, Amir planted his money and his watch underneath Hassan and Ali mattress telling Baba that Hassan stole it from him. As a result, Baba forgave Hassan but Ali made a decision to not work -
Leaving Afghanistan
During this time Amir is eighteen and he and Baba decide to flee Afghanistan and come to leave in the United States. The society has become worst day after day because of the Soviet Union invading Afghanistan. According to Amir he says that there is no one to trust in Kabul. People will tell on each other just to get incarcerated or punish. Meeting Soraya
This was the year that Amir fell in love. It happen in the flea market when he first meet General Sahib’s daughter Soraya. With one glimpse and he already knew that she was the one for him. Amir described Soraya having a graceful hooked noise and eyebrows that connect like a arched wings of a flying birds. That night after he met Soraya was the longest night ever for Amir. He saw this as yelda the longest night of the year until he will reconnect with his beloved Soraya once again. -
Saving Sohrab
This was the time that Amir when to Afghanistan to visit Rahim Khan when he was sick. Rahim told him that there is a way to be good again. The only way for this to happen is for Amir to rescue Sohrab in an orphanage in Kartehseh. At first Amir said no, why did he have to, until Rahim told him about Sanuabar and Baba and how Hassan is his half brother. As a result, Amir had no choice and he knew the only way to get rid of his guilt is to save Sohrab. -
Infertility
This year was the year that Amir wife Soraya was diagnose with unexplained infertility. This was the most saddest moments in Soraya and Amir life because they both weren’t able to parents. They both decided to take in consideration for adoption but according to General Sahib he says that this isn’t for Afghan people because they do not know what blood they are bringing to their home. He also says that this doesn’t go with Afghan tradition.
