The Montreal Protocol is adopted
On the 16th September, the Montreal Protocol is adopted as a result of concerns about the thinning of the Ozone Layer the effects of which include increased risks to human health in the forms of cancers and damage to photosynthesising plants which are the basis of the food chain. -
The Opening agreement
The opening agreement was between 46 countries and set in place plans to reduce the production and consumption of Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) by 50% of the levels of 1986 before the year 1999.
