Economic Message
President Kennedy sends a message to Congress stating all of his proposals for ecomonic legislation. Seven of the proposals were put into effect within 5 months after this message was sent. -
The Peace Corps is established
In an effort to provide americans with the opportunity to provide need to struggling nations, the president puts the Peace Corps into effect. This would be led by his brother-in-law, R. Sargent Shriver. -
Enhancing the Space Program
In the Presidnet's speech in front of Congress, he asks for $7 billion to $9 billion to use on the space program for the next 5 years. This is where the U.S. starts catching up in the space race. -
Housing Act of 1961
President Kennedy puts the Housing Act of 1961 into effect. This act provided assitance on improving urban housing and community development along with improvment of public transportation. -
Social Security Act
Kennedy passed the Social Security Act, which provided benifits for people of a certain age when they retire. -
Abolishing the Death Penalty in DC
On March 22nd, 1962, Kennedy signed the HR5143, which abolished the use of the death penalty in the nation's capital. -
Drug Industry Act of 1962
This required medicines to be tested more and that brought more safety to them -

This act made it illegal to pay women and men differnet for the same job.
