The Watt Steam Engine
The Watt steam engine Improved on the design of the 1712 Newcomen engine and was the next great step in the development of the steam engine. It was the first type of steam engine to make use of steam at a pressure just above atmospheric to drive the piston helped by a partial vacuum. -
French Revolution Starts
In 1789 citizens of Paris stormed the Bastille prison, starting the French Revolution. It strarted at a dissatisfaction of high bread prices and the Aristocrats. The Aristocrats raised tax prces in order to support their lifestyle of extravagance. -
The Sewing Machine
In 1790 Thomas Saint invented the Sewing Machine. This revolutionised fabric making as it allowed people to skitch fabric and other materials with thread. -
Smallpox Vaccine
Smallpox has been the deadliest disease in the history of human kind. The first successful vaccine to be developed, was introduced by Edward Jenner. He followed up his observation that milkmaids who had previously caught cowpox did not catch smallpox by showing that inoculated cowpox protected against smallpox. -
First electric light
In 1800 an English scientist named Humphry Davy made the first electric light. While experimenting with electricity Davy made an electric battery.He connected wires to the battery and a piece of carbon and the carbon glowed, creating light. -

In 1844 Samuel Morse finished creating the telegraph. A communication system that revolutionised how people could communicate over long distances in a matter of seconds. In 1844 Morse transmitted the famous message,"What hath God wrought?" -
American Civil War Starts
In 1861 War was declared in American against itself, over the stupidist of issues, slavery. The Confederates, states in the South and the Union, states in the North were at war until 1865. Four years of bloody war that killed over 600,000 soldiers. -
Dynamite Invented
Alfred nobel, later creater of the nobel prize, invented dynamite in 1867. This created a safer way to blast holes in mountains or the ground than simply lighting black powder. This also revolutionised warfare -
The Telephone
Alexander Graham Bell was the first man to invent and then patent the telephone. It is a communication device that allows people to talk to eachother over long distances. -
The revolver
Samuel Colt, in 1836, patented a revolver gun. This lead to wide spread use of the revolver. He used a version of the ratchet and pawl mechanism to rotate the cylinder. -
Wright Bros. flight
On December 17, 1903 the Wright brothers, wilbur and Orville achieved flight. It was the world's first successful airplane and making the first controlled, powered and sustained heavier-than-air human flight. -
The Titantic Disaster
In 1912 the Titantic, the largest passenger liner in the world and symbol of technological progress set sail. On that horrible day in April the ship hit an iceberg and sank. People were shocked as they tought modern technology could not fail. -
Henry Fords Assembly Line
In 1913 Henry Fords revolutionary assembly line was in working order. The continuous flow of the assembly line allowed for more cars to be built faster and at a higher quality.
