Tested in the Marshall Islands by the United States and found to be 2500 times stronger than the atom bomb. Developed by Edward Teller who met a large amount of resistance from ment like Paul M. Doty and Linus Pauling. -
Russia Creates Its Own H-Bomb
This is Russia's first H-bomb drop in Totskoye Russia. This creates tension between the US and Russia because both countries have the ability to launch nuclear weapons and cause mass destruction. This leads to the mass retaliation statement made by the United States that said any nuclear attack would be met with equal response to discourage the Russian's from firing. -
Sputnik Missile Program Success
The sputnik rocket was tested successfully by the Russians. It was a type of rocket called the R-7 and could be used to launch a nuclear warhead anywhere in the world. In response the Americans laid down the DEW line, an anti missile defence system in the Arctic Circle. -

The first nuclear armed submarine was launched by the united states dawning a new era of naval nuclear weapons. The sub had 16 polaris missiles on board that had a range of 1,200 nautical miles. -
