Bombing of Pearl Harbor
The Japanese attacked the Naval base of Pearl Harbor by Honolulu Hawaii. The fighter planes planned a sneak attack early Sunday morning. It happened because Japan wanted to expand their nation to the South Pacific. They wanted to destroy the US Naval fleet in the Pacific.

US and Britain Declare War
Japan bombed Pearl Harbor which led to the US and Britain declaring war. FDR signed the declaration in the White House, but he declared it on the radio.

Japan was planning to attack America in the Pacific. America had cracked their code and found out where the Japanese would be and how they would attack. America lost the ship Yorktown but Japan lost 4 important carriers and many experienced crewmen. This was a major turn around for the allies.

Battle of Guadalcanal
The Japanese made an airfield on the Guadalcanal and America landed there and overran the airfield. After Pearl Harbor the Japanese moved toward the South Pacific threatening our Ferry route connecting the United States to Australia.

Battle of Tarawa
America went to Betio and expected to take it over easily. They took over the island after a 76 hour battle. This was a prime target for the US to reach the marshals.The US walked through high waters to get to Betio.

Atomic Bomb on Hirioshima
America dropped a bomb on Hiroshima. It immediately killed 80,000 people. They wanted to bring the war to a quick end. The Enola Gay dropped the bomb. President Harry S. Truman called for Japans surrender and if they didn't they should expect another "Rain of Ruin" from the air.

End of War
The Japanese surrenders to the US at Tokyo Bay. They surrendered because 2 bombs were dropped in Japan. Emperor Hirohito gave a recorded radio address across the empire that stated the surrender of Japan.
