Oghuz Turks Migration
The history of Turkey begins with the migration of the Oghuz Turks into the Anatolian region and which formed the Seljuq Empire. Turkey was controlled by the Seljuq until the invasion Mongols. During this time regions formed under the Mongols. One of these rgions was the Ottoman beylik. Over time, the Ottoman region became bigger and became the Ottoman Empire. Over even more time, this region expanded to the Eastern Anatolia, the Caucasus, the Middle East, Central Europe, and North Africa. -

Constantinopole is Re-Named
Currently Turkey's largest city Istanbul, used to be called Constantinopole. In 1930, this city was re-named Istanbul.The city was conquered by Fatih Sultan Mehmet. -

In 1453, Constantinopole was conquered by Fatih Sultan Mehemet from the Byzantines. Constantinopole was later renamed Istanbul. -
After World War 1
After World War 1, Turkey was defeated. A group of key officers in the millitary, formed a government in Ankara. They chose a leader, Mustafa Kemal or "Ataturk" or what he would later be known as, Father of the Turks. He organized a successful war of independence against the Allied powers. Then he later established the Republic of Turkey in 1923. -

Ataturk's Reforms
Ataturk established these rights :equal rights for women, secular government, prohibition of the fez and the veil, substitution of the Latin alphabet for the Arabic, Turkification of city names, everyone adopts a surname, and more. -
Modern Turkey is Founded
The Republic of Turkey was established on October 29,1923 by Mustafa Kemal in the capital of Turkey, Ankara. Mustafa Kemal became the president of Turkey. From that day on, the Ottoman Empire became known as the Republic of Turkey. -
The Death of Ataturk
Ataturk died on November 10,1938 in the Dolmabahce Palace in Istanbul. He died of sickness and after he died, he was temporarily in the Ethnography Museum of Ankara. Later in November of 1953, his Mausoleum was complete and he was later buried there. -
Cyprus Conflict/Dispute
The Cyprus Conflict was a dispute between Turkey and the Greek Cypriots. It has suffered a long history of violence and foreign domination. It was a colonial and ethnic dispute regarding who's land it was. First, it was a colony of Britian but then the Greek Cypriots got into to the conflict as well as Turkey. In the end, half of the land was given to Greece and the other half to Turkey, -
Earthquake Hits Izmit
On August 17,1999, a devastating earthquake hit the city Izmit. The earthquake was a 7.6 magnatude and killed 17,00 people and left half a million people home-less. The earthquake expanded about 150 kilometers. -
In World War II Turkey Remains Neutral
Turkey remained neutral during the most part of WWII but therewas a high-level discussion between it's allies of Turkish neutriality. In April of 1944 Turkey had a cesstion of trade with Germany.
