    Mechanical Telivision
    One of the first mechanical telivisons used a rotating disk with holes arranged in a spiral pattern. This device was invented by the Scottish inventor John Logie Baird and the American inventor Charles Francis Jenkins. These types of telivions were first arround in the 1920s.

    Philo Farnsworth and the First Electronic TV
    On September 7, 1927, Philo Farnsworth, a 21 year-old demstrates the first working electronic telivision. Philo Farnsworth (inventor) is known as the Father of modern telivison. By 1934, all telivisons have been converted into the elctronic system.

    The first American TV started airing in 1928, and did not have one single commercial for 13 peaceful years. The first commercial aired on July 1, 1941 on NBC. It was for a Bulova watch and lasted only 10 seconds long.

    During the 1940s, there were only three networks, NBC, CBS, and ABC. Programs were local, because in order to get shows to the rest of the nation, they pointed a film camera at the TV screen and converted video into film. Then the kinescopes were duplicated and shipped to the few stations to be shown nationwide.

    During the 1950s, there were not many TV shows that aired, because big-name actors were already involved in Broadway, vaudeville, radio shows, and motion pictures. Fortuantely, this did not last long, and many actors quickly got involved in drama and comedy shows, which were the most popular types of shows.

    On January 12, 1950, the general public was intorduced to color TV when CBS demonstrated its color system on eight telivison sets in Washington. Color telivison works like this: a wheel with red, green, and blue segments rotated in front on the camera, while a similar wheel rotated in front the the TV screen. The broadcasters wee not producing color TV, causing the color TV to be somewhat unpopular. Very few Americans owned a color TV set from 1954 to 1965.

    The first remote control for a TV set was barely one at all. It was called the Tele Zoom. It was only used to zoom in to the pictue on the TV, and did not change chanels or turn on/off the set. The Tele Zoom was released in 1948. The first "real" remote was developed by Zenith Radio Corporation, and it did turn on/off the TV set and changed chanels. It was released in 1955.

    By 1966, broadcasters started producing colored TV prgramms, causing many more Americans to by a colored TV set.
  • TV is extremely popular in America

    TV is  extremely popular in America
    By the late 1990s, 98% of U.S. homes had at least one telivison set.
