    In 1959 Buddy Holly, Richardson, and Valens were killed in a plane crash. At the time Holly and his band the crickets were playing on the Winter Dance Party tour across the Midwest. Artists Valens, Richardson had joined the tour. The long journeys between venues on board the very cold uncomfortable tour buses majorly affected the performers, with cases of flu. After stopping at Clear Lake to perform, and frustrated by the cold Holly chose to charter a plane to reach their next venue.
