Powerlifting is born in USA & UK
In early 1950s powerlifting is born and many people start to take part in it. Originally a branch off of Weightlifting, it spreads throughout and many people start to Powerlift in American and UK. Powerlifting follows similar format as weightlifting where you get 3 attempts at each of the 3 lifts: Squat, Bench and Deadlift.

First World Weightlifting Championships
On Bob Hoffman's birthday instead of a party it was decided to make a powerlifting competition. There were bunch of Americans, 4 British and 1 from West Indes at the event. -
IPF is formed
The International Powerlifting Federation is formed in 1971 and now lifters were able to hold on to records and there were strict rules set to follow by each and everyone

First Official Powerlifting Championship
After the IPF was formed, in 1973 an official and recorded international championship took place. Lifters and audience were able to see records and compare themselves. -
1st Powerlifting Magazine

Women are added to Championship
1st ever women championship was held in Lowell, Massachusetts. It was the first time women were allowed to compete on an international level. It was a big step for the sport of powerlifitng.

IPF approves bench shirt
The congress approved bench shirts right before the world championships in 1992. This was a big deal because some lifters were bench over 700 in the competition. The company Inzer made the bench shirts.

1st 700+ lb RAW bench press in a full meet
James Henderson became the first man to bench press 711 in a full competition meaning he squatted, benched, and deadlifted. The record still stands today in the IPF of heaving bench in full meet.

Ray Williams became the first person in history to squat over 1000 lbs raw with belt and knee sleeves in IPF history
