Counter-Strike: Source was by far the most popular in that time due to the game having little to no bugs or design flaws. The whole Counter-Strike series was and still is very popular for competetive play. -

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive or quite commonly refered to as "CSGO" was the sucessor to CS:S or Counter-Strike: Source and is played by millions today. Surveys calculate that about a million new people start playing Counter-Strike every week. -
Counter-Strike games are introduced to Linux & OS: X
This was a huge step-up because prior to this, if you wanted to play CS you'd have to have Windows as on OS or operating system. Typically if you wanted to game on PC, you'd have to have Windows because Linuix and Mac OS's didn't support games. -
CSGO was updated for the first time.
CSGO was updated. On a map called "de_dust2" where on the bombsite "B" there was this box that you could see behind as the Terrorist came through the tunnel, this was "patched" by making the area behind the box a black box, making it unable to see behind it. -
CS:GO updates once again
Adds wires coming from a defusal kit to the bomb, making it obvious that you're defusing it. Many players do not like this and are requesting to have this update reverted back. -
Counter-Strike: Nexon Zombies
Introduced as a free-to-play spin off of Counter-Strike produced by Nexon and oversighted by Valve. -
CS:GO updates animations
This update allows players to see what a spotted enemy is doing from moment to moment. Allowing for better and smoother firefights. Also revamps "hitboxes".
