  • Invention of Binary

    Invention of Binary
In 1689 mathematician Gottfried Leibniz invented the modern form of binary. Binary is a writing system consisting of 1's and 0's or really; a "on" mode and a "off" mode. These can be combined to form letters and information, forming the basis of modern computing. In ASCII, the modern standard for binary, an "A" would be 1000001, "B" would be 1000010, "C" would be 1000011 and so on.
  • Alan Turing

    Alan Turing
In 1939 he succeeded in cracking the enigma code. The enigma code was a code used by Nazi Germany to send messages securely. This helped the allies in their victory. He created a code breaking technique called the Turingery and the code deciphering machine Bombe. He created the first prototype computer using binary which came to form the basis for computing in the future.
  • The invention of the hard drive

The invention of the hard drive
Reynold invented a device that automatically corrects multiple choice tests. In 1934 Reynold sold the rights for the device to IBM, who then hired him. While working for IBM he invented hundreds of devices, which mainly related to punching and reading key punch cards (used for storage). In 1952 Reynold and his team were tasked by IBM to create a more efficient way for data storage. The hard drive was invented in 1956, it used magnetic disk storage, it weighed a ton and could store 5 mb of data.
  • The first videogame

    The first videogame
Pong was the first videogame, released in 1978. Pong is a “tennis” game where each player occupies a “racket” on each side of the game. A ball is bounced between the two sides and the goal is for the player to bounce the ball beyond the other player's racket. The game was designed by Allan Alcorn. The original game was not coded in any language. Instead Alcorn used only physical elements.
  • The World Wide Web

    The World Wide Web
Tim Berners-Lee created the Word Wide Web (WWW) or just the web. WWW is a form of transferring information between devices. Using HTML (a programming language created for the purpose of the web by Berner-Lee) one can program pages of information like texts that can be accessed via the internet. HTTP is another language that is used on the web, but in the purpose of direct file exchange.
