Obelisks and sundials
The first obelisk was created in 3500 B.C. and is among the shadow clock. The sundial dates back around 1500 B.C. and have their orgin in shadow clocks. -

Water Clock
This was a prototype of our modern alarm clock created by the Greeks. The "water clock" ,also called a clepsydrae , was where raising waters would both keep time and eventually hit a mechanical bird that triggered an alarming whistle. These were much more useful than sundials, because they could be use indoors and outdoors. -

The earliest medieval European clockmakers were Christian monks. The first recorded clock was built by the future Pope Sylvester II. -

Wrist Watch
In 1504, the first portable watch was created by Peter Henlein. in Nuremburg, Germany. The first reported person to actually wear a watch on the wrist was the French mathematician and philosopher, Blaise Pascal. -
Mechanical Alarm clocks
The first mechanical alarm clock was invented by American Levi Hutchins of Concord, New Hampshire, in 1787. It could only ring at 4 A.M. In 1876, a mechanical wind-up alarm clock that could ring at any time, was patened by Seth E. Collins. -
Standard Time
Standard time is the synchronization of clocks within a geographical area to a single time. Sir Sanford Fleming invented standard time in 1878. -
Battery Powered Clock
The Warren Clock Company was formed in 1912. Soon they produced a new type of clock run by batteries, before, clocks were either wound or run by weights.
