Kuomintang (The Nationalist Party) wanted nationalization and modernization. They made a Revolutionary Alliance and kicked out the emperor. -
World War 1 Begins as Austria Declares War of Serbia
Archduke Franz Ferdinand visited Serbia and was shot by a member of the Black Hand. This caused Austria to become even more mad at Serbia because they killed Austria's leader. -
U.S. Enters the War
The U.S. decided to enter the war because of Germany. Germany sunk a U.S. shipped called the Lusitania and killed 128 citizens. Also Germany sent a telegram to Mexico, the Zimmerman Telegram, saying that if Mexico went on their side they would help Mexico reconquer their land that was taken by the U.S. -
Armistice Signed as Allies defeat Central Powers
Since the Second Battle of the Marne the French and the Germans decided to stop fighting. In order to make this an actual agreement both of the countries signed an armistice. -
Gandhi Leads Italian Campaign of Civil Disobedience
Since the Amritsar Massacre the British didn't do anything to punish the soldiers that killed the people in the Amritsar. Ghandi then decided to have an independence movement so the British wouldn't have as much control over India. -
Mustafa Kemal Transforms Turkey into a Republic
Mustafa made Turkey a Republic by having four reforms:
- seperated the laws of Islam from the laws of the nation
- abolished religious courts and created a new legal system based on European law
- granted woman the right to vote and to hold public office
- launched government-funded programs to industrialize Turkey and to spur economic growth -
MaoZedong heads the Long March
MaoZedong was an assistant librarian. He then became one of the most revolutionary leaders by leading the communists through the Long March.
