Jonas is excited for the ceremony of the twelve's, and is anxious to see what job he gets. But when everyone else gets called, he is left behind without a calling, making everyone nervous. -
Apologies
The Elder apologizes for making people worry, and proceeds to explain that Jonas has been chosen to be the new receiver, and that it is a very impotant job that can only be given by slection. -
Becoming the receiver
Everyone know thinks of Jonas as a different person, and
Jonas also gets his instructions for his new job. -
New memories
Jonas reports for his job, and receives the memory of sledding down a hill -
Knowing is hard
Jonas finds that not telling people about the things he knows is hard, but manages anyways. -
Life
Jonas continues with his live, seeing beyond every so often. -
The plan
Jonas and the Giver plans out an escape plan to release memories into the community and destroy the dystopia. -
Escape
Jonas stole food and escaped the community with Gabe, planes started to search for them. -
End of the Search
The planes stopped searching for Jonas, giving him some peace to escape. -
Ending
The book ends as Jonas is sledding down an actual hill, witnessing the same memory he gave to Gabe
