The Futility of Chicago Cubs Baseball

  • World Series Champions

The Chicago Cubs beat the Detroit Tigers 4 games to one in the World Series to win their second consecutive title. 105 years later, it's their most recent title.
  • Wrigley Field Completed

The Chicago Cubs new stadium then known as Weeghman Park, is officially opened to the public. It's currently the second oldest ballpark in the country still in use (after Boston's Fenway Park).
  • Last World Series appearance and the Curse

The Cubs lose to the Tigers in seven games in the World Series. It's the last time the Cubs have reached the World Series. This was also the series that began the "Billy Goat" curse, which originated when a man's goat was denied entry into Wrigley Field before game 4.
  • So Close...

The Cubs lose the NLCS to the Florida Marlins in seven games. This series was infamous in that the Cubs choked away a 3-1 series lead with two games left to play at Wrigley, and of course the Steve Bartman controversy during Game 6.
