  • Abolitionist

    Abolitionist
    During this period of time people begin to work toward the evil institution of slavery. Abolitionist have been working for years before the 1830's infact Britain and other countries have made it illegal. Harriet Beecher stowe write Uncle Tom's Cabin to inspire women of the era to push toward reforms. Slave revolts such as Nat Turner and Harriet Tubman with the underground railroad inspire and yet cause fear of future danger.

    The Temperance movement pushed for womens rights. Actually modling their rights after the declaration of independence they called for the their declaration of sentiments. Fighting for the right to vote Lucretia Mott tried to inspire women to chaneg their future and have influence on government by the use of voting rights.

    During this time Alcohol is becoming a scapegoat for social problems. Crime, Death, and Abuse is from the actual abuse of alcohol. To much of the drink can lead to possible negative outcomes with in its people. Ironically we see this issue spring up throughout history and coming to a bump with the 18th amendment as well as the 21st amendment.

    Created well before the election of 1860. However the issue of abolitonist is becoming stronger as well as westward expansion is still ad work. In fact the election of 1848 proved that the anti slavery issue is getting heated because the Free Soils party actual claims votes over the dominant party of Zachary Taylor.

    The Populist party is just an evolved grange and further more a Farmers Alliance. Since before the civil war the west has been settled. The farmers who are trying to make it work in the west cannot afford railroad rates, as well as get a loan out from banks because of the high rates due to the gold standard. However the fight over inflation and bimetalism takes hold. What comes fromt his era is the reform of politics and work place regulations.

    The Radicals are fighting a conflict of south and north through legislation. With the passage of the 13, 14, and 15th amendments this is the proving point to the south that African American Equality is the issue of reconstruction. Radicals are also fighting a president who does't quite see their strong values on making the south pay for the civil war.

    During the industrial revolution we begin to see the gilded age take hold. Early reforms to correct the gap between the Wealthy and Poor was to fihgt for better working conditions. However it was done through protest and sometimes violence which led to the end of labor unions with the haymarket square riot.
  • Progressive Era

    Progressive Era
    This period of time is when protesting for the poort turns into the political realm. Using tools of photography and information to the people with influence becomes the mode to get things passed to help out the common citizen. During this time we begin to see the end to child labor and the passge of food and drug acts.
