The Election of George Washington
On this date Mr. President took the oath of office. Americans were afraid that a president would try tto become king, but they trusted Washington. (pgs.258 and 259) -
Whiskey Rebellion
The Whiskey Rebellion was the name of the rebellion where farmers got angry because they had to pay tax on whiskey. The rebellion consisted of more than one day. -
Jay's Treaty
Jay's Treaty eliminated British control of western ports. The treaty passed the Senate in June 1975. -
Pickney's Treaty
Established friendship between the United States and Spain. It also defined the boudaries of the United States. -
Election of John Adams
John Adams was also the first vice president of the U.S, The congress decided to let him take over when Washington died. -
Washingtons Farewell Adress
After Wahington retired he re5urned to his home in Mt. Vernon. Back in Mt. Vernon he decided to devote his time to farming. -
Election of Thomas Jefferson
Vice Presiden Thomas Jefferson defeated Presiden John Adams in the election for president. One of the chief political issues was opposition to tax. -
XYZ Affair
Three French agents were referred to as x, y, and z, that's where the name comes from. The agents were demanding moneny so that the U.S could keep relations alive with the french. -
Naturalization Act
This law was passed on June 18th (My Birthday!). The law stated that aliens needed to stay in the U.S for 14 years instead of 5 years so they could qualify as legal citizens. -
Alien and Sedition Acts
The Sedition Act was passed on July 14, 1798. They intended to use these laws to strengthen the government. -
VA and KY Resolutions
The Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions were passed in oppostion to the Alien and Sedation acts. They were written by Thomas Jefferson. -
Lewis and Clark Expedition
THe expedition was launched to explore the resources in the Nortwest. The expedition helped establish the legal claim of the U.S. -
Twelfth Amendment
It was shown to congress on December 9th 1803. The amendment provides the procedure for electing president and vice-president. -
Election of James Madison
James Madison was elected for 2 terms. He was also known as the "Father of the Constitution." -
"The Star Bangled Banner"
The star spangled banner was written in 1814 by Francis Scott Key. It is now our Nations National Anthem.
