Lasted 304 years, only consisted of the Russian Royal family. Ended in 1917. This was good because it was so strong, for so long. -

Central policy making and government body of the communist party of the Soviet Union. This was good because all new policies were made. -

Gained control throughout Russia Soviet Union starts. This was good for the Soviet Union because they won and gained land. -
Treaty of Brest-Livosk
Between Russia and the central powers, exited Russia from WW1. This was embarrassing for them because they lost alot of wealthy land. This was also good because we got out of WW1. -
Stalin's 5 year plans
Central government planners set goals-soviet industry almost catches up to rest of europe in 15 years. This was good because he was determined to industrialize Russia quickly, and he suceeded. -
World War 2
Started September 1, 1939 and ended in 1945. This was good for the Soviet Union because they became a super power, and rose to victory. -
Hydrogen Bomb
Soviet Union challenged the U.S's war strength in August of 1953. The Soviet Union showed alot of power because of their weapon. -
Laika and Sputnik 3
They sent a Soviet space dog to orbit the earth. This was good because they were the first ones to do this, and it showed that they were skilled. -
Sputnik
Launched October 4,1957- first artificial satelite, part of the cold war, started the space race. This was good for them because they showed power. -
Joe 1
After WW2, the soviet union developed their first atomic weapon, This was good because they were improving. -
Creation of Berlin Wall
A barrier was constructed by the German Democratic Republic. It cut off west Berlin from surronding east Germany and from east Berlin. This was bad because it showed the Soviet Union's weaknesses. -
1968 Invasion of Czechoslovakia
Involved the Soviet Union and the main satelite states in the warsaw pact. Bulgaria, the german democratic republic, Hungary and Poland invaded the Czechoslovakia socialist republic. This was good for the Soviets because it showed they wanted change. -
Salt 1
President Nixon flew into Moscow in 1972 to sign the Strategic Limitation Treaty. This was an agreement on how many missles everyone could use. This was good because it decreased the tension between the U.S and the USSR. -
Salt 2
USSR President, Leonia Breznev and U.S President, Gerald, came together to set limits for missle launchers and bombs. This was good because it settled the disagreement and it was fair. -
Soviet-Afghan War
A proxy war that lasted 9 years, this occured during the cold war, it involved the soviet union. The soviet union was supporting the Marx-Lenist government. This wasnt good or bad because there wasnt a clear winner. -
Gorbachev Becomes Leader
Russia had a new leader. This wasnt good or bad because it wasnt a bad thing, it was just change for Russia. -
Warsaw Pact
Communist and worker parties of the Soviet Union, gathered in Warsaw signed a protocol extending the effective term of the friendship treaty of 1955. This was good because it extended the peace. -
Perestroika
A political movement that involved the Communists of the Soviet Union. This was bad because it turned into a disaster. There were many disagreements. -
Chernobyl Disaster
Nuclear accident: occured at the Chernobyl Nucleaur Powerplant in Ukraine. Tested babies and humans and many died. This was bad because it showed that the USSR didnt know how to use their technology and couldnt control their weapons. -

General secretary of the communist party of the Soviet Union. -
Voting Reforms for Gorbachev
Voting is reformed. The soviet citizens were allowed to vote for people other than communists. The communist didnt lose too many votes though. This was a good thing because they were making elections more fair. This is also good because obviously the communists were doing something right if they were getting alot of votes. -
Fall of the Berlin Wall
The border seperating western from eastern Germany was opened. This was good because it was showing that the USSR wasnt as weak as they were when they put the wall up. -
Boris Yeltsin Becomes President
First Russian president in 1991, he ended his presidency in 1999. This was bad because it was a big change and no one was used to this. -
Glasnost
The government had to become more open then they were. This was good for the Soviet Union because then the government will be more understanding and accepting of change and new ideas. -
Free Elections
Elections were more fair, and you could vote for who you wanted too. This was good because you had your own say. -
Lithuania and Lativa Protests
8,000 cops and teachers protested to the government. This was bad for the USSR, because it made them look bad. The government had to be doing something wrong if there was protests going on.
