  • They invent the telegraph

    Developed in the 1830s and 1840s by Samuel Morse (1791-1872) and other inventors, the telegraph revolutionized long-distance communication. It worked by transmitting electrical signals over a wire laid between stations.
  • The film projector is born

    The first movie projector was the Zoopraxiscope, by the pioneering British photographer Eadweard Muybridge ;in 1879 (not a typo but the original Anglo-Saxon form of Edward!). To create motion, the Zoopraxiscope rapidly projected images from rotating glass disks.
  • Radio comes up

    Guglielmo Marconi: an Italian inventor, proved the feasibility of radio communication. He sent and received his first radio signal in Italy in 1895. By 1899 he flashed the first wireless signal across the English Channel and two years later received the letter "S", telegraphed from England to Newfoundland
  • TV appears

    The world's first television stations first started appearing in America in the late 1920s and early 1930s. The first mechanical TV station was called W3XK and was created by Charles Francis Jenkins (one of the inventors of the mechanical television). That TV station aired its first broadcast on July 2, 1928
  • Mass Media Studies Begins

    It arises from the loss of individualism in 1930 where studies were undertaken in which the mass media used their forces or power to thereby manipulate society where the need was to obtain and disseminate knowledge about the control and domination of opinion public.
  • The first tv with color

    Inventor: John Logie Baird
    Sometime between 1946 and 1950, the research staff of RCA Laboratories invented the world's first electronic, color television system. A successful color television system based on a system designed by RCA began commercial broadcasting on December 17, 1953.
  • The internet age begins

    In 1962, Paul Baran, a researcher with the United States Government, presented a communications system that, through computers connected to a decentralized network, was immune to external attacks.
  • The first social networks emerge

    The first recognizable social media site, Six Degrees, was created in 1997. It enabled users to upload a profile and make friends with other users. In 1999, the first blogging sites became popular, creating a social media sensation that's still popular today.
  • Facebook come out

    On February 4 2004, the first iteration of Facebook was born, then known as thefacebook.com and made available exclusively to Harvard students. However, the truth about how Facebook came about isn't altogether clear, due to the involvement of three Harvard seniors.
  • Smartphone

    2008: Google explodes the smartphone market with its Android operating system
    Android phones hit the market in October 2008, and it quickly became the dominant mobile operating system. There were more Android devices sold than Apple and Symbian combined in 2010.
