The Charter Offering
In 1630, the Massachusetts Court Of Assistants were offering a charter to anyone who would operate a ferry to connect Boston and Charlestown -
Thomas Williams takes the offer
Thomas Williams established a three-mile ferry run across Boston Harbor. He established one of the biggest and most successful transportation systems in the world, which would provide transportation by boat to civilians for the next few hundred years. -
First Stagecoach
During 1793, the first stagecoach started between Boston and Cambridge over the West Boston Bridge. -
The omnibus , an upgrade of the stage coach
In 1820, a new type of transportation was being introduced to the world, a vehicle called an “Omnibus”. This bus is an early replica of the buses we have in modern day society with many rows and seats and doors on each side, and would soon evolve and change into the bus that is commonly seen everyday. -
Creation of rails and subways
In 1832, the beginning of the rail and subways were being created with the start of horses being able to pull heavy carriages along 2 parallel railings. Since the cart would be gliding along rails and would not be directly on the ground, it would be able to move much more smoothly more efficiently and be able to transport the civilians and goods in harsh conditions such as snow. -

Boston began to use small copper wire could propel cars and since it worked sucessfully, other cities began to follow. -

Boston's Tremont Street became so crowded, it cause people to propose to build a subway underground. -
