Whats a TV ?
When WWII started, all the hype around TV's were gone. Although the U.S wasn't involved in the war, the production of the TV stopped but the innovations didn't. During the war the television as used as a " small propaganda machine" . The late 40's saw a boom in television production.

A " Boom" in TV
In the late 1950s there were more than 8,000,000 TVs in the United States.Color becomes the wave of the future and the Remote Control is invented,although most people had neither. By the end of the decade, a 21-inch black and white set was about $200.The average 21-inch color set was almost $500. Which is about $5,011 in 2016. The first wireless remote was invented in 1955.

Production of the first TV
Americans begin to get more news from the television than the newspaper. many things were being broadcast-ed on TV such as the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show, the Vietnam War, and climate change and hospitality towards the government. there were approximately 78 million television sets in homes across the United States; 200 million around the world.

Satellite TV
The first direct to broadcast satellite television was launched in 1972. 1978 was the last year large Black and White consoles were manufactured.

VCR's
The 80’s saw little innovation with the television, specifically there became a growing number of television accessories like the VCR and the Nintendo. Although cable had been around since the 50’s, cable television saw a huge boom during the 80’s. Some 80's programs were “Rosanne,” “The Cosby Show” and “Married with Children”.The VCR took the United States by surprise. Although it was introduced in the late 70’s, the VCR didn’t become a hit in the American home until the mid 1980's. -
New Technology
The 90's saw a big change in technology thanks the internet. the personal computer became affordable for "average" people. television shows also grew, "Friends","Twin Peaks" & "The Simpsons" were popular.

Plasma's & HD
Much like the VCR the DVD players were introduced a decade earlier but took some time for it to grow popular. They were in approx. 7% of homes. Television manufacturers produced a better picture and larger screen sizes.
