Digital Camera
By definition, this is a device that captures photos digitally and saves them on a memory card instead of using photographic film. In 2006, the year I was born, my parents used a digital camera to capture significant moments in my life such as my birth and the first time my mom and grandmother held me. They even had those photos printed and compiled in a physical photo album. -
Camcorder / Videocam
Similarly, this is a portable device that combines a video camera and a video recorder. It captures moving images and records the footage onto various media formats such as tapes, DVDs, or memory cards. In my case, my parents also used a videocam to capture important events during my infancy such as recording the first word I spoke, the first time I walked, as well as a video of me singing. Some of these videos were even uploaded later on to the social media platform, Youtube. -
Television
An electronic device used for receiving and displaying broadcast or cable television signals. These could include content like news, entertainment shows, movies, and sports. My family enjoys watching the news and drama series on television up to this day. As a result, I was introduced to TV shows at a young age, and it quickly became one of my favorite pastimes. I fondly remember the days spent watching cartoons and drama series. -
PlayStation Portable
Also known as PSP, is a handheld gaming console which was first released in 2004. It features a high-resolution screen, built-in speakers, and controls similar to a full-sized PlayStation controller, making it a versatile and portable entertainment device. My older brother introduced me to the PSP. I remember him showing me the games he played, like the God of War and Pokemon, and he would let me play them too. Although we weren't that close, this became one of our shared interests. -
Nintendo DS
Similar to the PSP, this is also a handheld gaming console developed and released by Nintendo. It features dual screens, with the lower screen being a touchscreen, allowing for interactive gameplay and control. I vividly remember feeling jealous of my brother's PSP, so I asked our mom to get me one as well. Instead, she ended up buying me a Nintendo because according to her, the PSP was "for boys". Initially, I was disappointed, but it turned out to be really nice. -
Smartphone
A mobile phone that combined advanced capabilities with phone functionalities. These devices typically featured touchscreens, internet connectivity via Wi-Fi and cellular networks, and the ability to run various apps and multimedia content. I got my first phone, a pink Samsung Galaxy Y, at the age of five. It was a gift from my father when he was still working in Dubai. Although it didn't last for long and I still have no idea where it went or how it got lost but it was very dear to me. -
Desktop Computer
A personal computer designed for regular use at a single location, as opposed to a portable device like a laptop. Looking back, our desktop computer holds so many memories. It was where I created my facebook account, edited and uploaded family photos, made random YouTube videos that are still accessible today, and played the game Fireboy and Watergirl with my cousins. -
iPad
A tablet computer designed and marketed by Apple. It features a touchscreen interface and runs on Apple's iOS operating system. When I was 6 or 7 years old, my mom gave me this as a graduation gift. I played fun games like Temple Run, Subway Surfers, and my favorite, Minecraft. It is also where I began my journey as a YouTube content creator, recording Minecraft gameplays, editing videos, and uploading them to my channel. Although I've outgrown it, it was still meaningful for me. -
Playstation 4
A home video game console developed by Sony Computer Entertainment. It's known for its powerful hardware which allow for high-quality graphics and performance. My parents bought this for me and my younger brother. I remember us taking it with us whenever we would go home to Pampanga, so that we could entertain ourselves with offline games since we didn't have internet access there. We would play games that involved teamwork or we would dance our hearts out with Just Dance. -
iPhone
A smartphone designed and marketed by Apple which combines a mobile phone, digital camera, and media player into one device with a touchscreen interface. It runs on the iOS operating system. My current phone, an iPhone 11, was a surprise gift from my grandmother, making it very special to me. Its high-quality camera has allowed me to capture pictures not only for aesthetic purposes but also to preserve memories and romanticize life a little.
