Izabelas 18th birthday party and dinner with the family Aires Cabral
Izabela Bonifacio turned eighteen years old and her father and mother had prepared a big party in Rio and invited several of the most influential families in Rio. She also got introduced to Gustavo Aires Cabral at the party, who showed interest in her. Later he invited Izabela and her family to dinner which Izabela's parents were extremely happy for. -
Gustavo proposes to Izabela
Gustavo and Izabela go to the mountain Corcovado to see the Cristo statue being built. There he proposes to Izabela to no one's surprise. Even though she is in doubt, and would rather have married someone out of love, she accepts based on her parent's will. Izabela also feels somewhat of pressure from society to marry Gustavo since her family is wealthy and he is of high status in Rio. -
Izabela and Laurent develop feelings for each other
Laurent offers to make a sculpture of Izabela which she accepts. Over several weeks both develop feelings for each other. He ends up confessing his feeling for her and vice versa. They both know that Izabela is engaged and has to leave soon for her wedding so they make the most of their time together. -
Izabela goes to Paris
Izabela goes to Paris with her friend Maria Elisa's family for a few months before her wedding with Gustavo. Maria Elisa's father Heitor Da Silva Costa is building the Christ statue and is in Paris to find some sculptors. When Izabela joins Heitor when he goes visiting the sculptor Paul Landowski she meets his assistant Laurent Brouilly. -
Izabelas wedding
In January of 1929, Izabela married Gustavo. They had a huge wedding which everyone in Rio knew about. After Gustavo often had intercourse with Izabel's which she didn't like at all because it hurt. But she didn't say anything because she was afraid of ruining the marriage. What Izabela dint know was that Laurant had arrived in Rio with some parts of the Cristo statue and to get Izabela, but he had come too late. -
Laurent and Izabela meet
Gustavo bought the sculpture of Izabela to her as a wedding gift as well as inviting the sculptor to dinner. Izabela didn't know what to say the whole evening because she was shocked to see him. Luckily Laurent saved the moments it got awkward. -
Laurent and Izabela meet in secret
Some day later after they had dinner together Izabela visited Laurent in secret. Both had feelings for each other but Izabela couldn't leave Rio to go to Paris with Laurent -
Izabela is with child
A couple of weeks later Izabela finds out she is pregnant. Without hesitating she know that the child is Laurents from the last time they met and had intercourse. She tells Laurent about the child and they are both happy about the surprise. Some days later she tells the same news to Gustavo and then their family. But after talking with his mother Gustavo is a bit suspicious about the father to the child. Some days later Laurent goes back to Paris -
Maia giving birth and adopting away her son
When Maia went to University she fell in love with a multi-millionaires son whose name was Zed. She ended up getting pregnant because Zed thought it was unnecessary. Maia only told the housekeeper Marina who is like a mother to her. Maia ended up giving birth to a son and only a few days later adopting him away. -
Maia goes to Rio De Janeiro
After the coordinates are solved by one of the sisters, Maia found out her coordinates were to an old villa in Rio De Janeiro. After much thinking Maia decides to be spontaneous for once and goes to Rio. This happens a few days after the sisters go back to their own homes. When Maia arrives in Rio she goes to the villa where she is met by a housekeeper and an elderly woman. When Maia says that her biological family had a connection to the house the elderly woman lies and denied her statement -
Pa Salts death
The father of the six adopted sisters dies of a sudden heart attack in late June 2007. The sisters quickly come back to their childhood home in Switzerland within a few days after the death of their father. Once all of the sisters have arrived they meet up with their father's lawyer. He tells them that their father wanted to be buried at sea without any of his daughter's acknowledgment. Then he shows them a statue of a globe with the sister's name and coordinates, in their father's secret garden -
Maia meets Floriano
Maia is a translator and she recently translated a book from Portuguese to French. In Rio, she gets a mail from the author of the book whose name is Floriano. They decide to meet up and go to the Christ statue together. Maia ends up telling him the reason why she is in Rio. Floriano shows interest in her story and offers to help her with her family history as well as show her around in Rio. -
Maia goes back to the villa
Maia and Floriano go back to the villa. The elderly woman, who goes by Senhora Carvalho, doesn't say a word this time when they try to talk to her. But the housekeeper, Yara, gives Maia some letters which the housekeeper got from her mother when she worked for the family several decades ago. She also says the real name of Senhora Carvalho is Beatriz -
Maia goes to Paris and then home to Geneve
After meeting with Beatriz, Maia takes a flight to Paris to meet up with Floriano. He shows Maia a statue of a woman on top of a fountain. When she looks closer she can see that the woman is Izabela. Floriano adds that he did some research and that it was Laurent Brouilly who had made the statue. After spending some nights in Paris, Maia takes Floriano with her home to Genève before he has to go back to Rio. Some days later Maia also goes back to Rio to live with Floriano. -
Maia reads the letters
Maia starts to read the letters she got from the housekeeper. She reads the letters over a timespan of three days. The story switches from Maia in the present time to Izabela, but only from the years between 1927 to 1930. When the story switches back to the present time Maia mostly hangs out with Floriano. Maia tries samba for the first time in/at the favela. She also eats dinner at Floriano's apartment with him and his young daughter Valentina. -
Maia meets Beatriz for the last time
Maia's grandmother Beatriz is on her deathbed. Maia visits her for the last time before she goes to Paris to meet Floriano. Beatriz tells Maia that she was going to adopt Maia but her father came in the lead. Beatriz also tells Maia about the time she studied in Paris and met Laurent Brouilly. He was nice to her although he only made a sculpture of Izabela and met her a couple of times. What Beatriz didn't know but Maia did was that Laurent was Beatriz's biological father.
