    The most notable discovery of this era was the ancient alphabet called the "Alibata" or "Baybayin." Ancient Filipinos used existing materials in their environment in order to jot down and record their experiences, transactions by using a language system. In Pre-Colonial Traces, there were umalokohan or town criers which their major role was to go around their barangay or small towns for them to announce important information that concerns the citizenry.

    Pre-industrial age is the time before there were machines and tools to help the people perform their tasks. Pre-industrial societies vary from region to region depending on the culture of the given area or history of social and political life.

    Insdustrial age is a period in history that surrounds the changes in economic and social organization. This period began around 1760 in Great Britain and later in other countries. In this period, hand tools were replaced with power-driven machines such as power loom and steam engines and industries in this period were focused in large establishments.

    Electronic age is the period where electronics or electromechanical audience are used to access the content. This means that during this period, messages or pieces of information exchange one hand to the other in the form of economic transaction. In Electronic age, telegraphs, broadcast industry (radio and television) and recorders were introduced to the mass as a form of spreading information.

During the American Colonial period in 1900's, imported films from America were shown in the early theaters in Manila. Film was known as a "universal and powerful medium of information and communication dissemination."

    Telegraph and telephone system were introduced in the country and the early radio broadcast began in this era. In 1890, the first telephone system in the country began its operations and the everyone enjoyed the system of information and communication exchange. Radio became the medium in Filipino homes because even people who cannot read or write were able to get and understand the information being delivered to them. Radio was also used in politics for propaganda purposes.

    The Philippine press was born and nurtured amidst the climate of political reform. Books, magazines and newspapers were brought to the Philippines by the ancient colonizers. The early newspapers played a major role in the nation's quest for freedom. In 1889, La Solidaridad was the most popular of the nationalistic newspapers, and the long-running newspapers that were established in the country was the Manila Times (1900) and the Manila Bulletin (1900).
