The first headphones were used by telephone operators women.
It was a one piece that rested on their shoulders and that would also weigh over 10 pounds !
Since it was not an electrical device, it wasn’t able to be used at home. -
The first modern headphones
Nathaniel Baldwin invented headphones in 1910. With the US Navy's guidance, Baldwin's final design consisted of two sound receivers, each containing a mile of copper wiring, attached to the operator's headband. This design was the foundation for electricity-free telephones used in World War II. -
The first dynamic headphones
The next headphones were made in 1937 by Beyerdynamic.
It becomes the first dynamic headphones to hit the market.
The newest addition to the technology to Beyerdynamic was that they took no other equipment to use them.
Dynamic headphones are, to this day, the most popular type on the
market. -
The first stereo headphones
Up until 1958, headphones were just being used for radio communications. John C. Koss introduced the first pair of headphones that would be meant for listening to music- the SP3 Stereophones. Koss's company still makes headphones today. -
The first portable headphones
In 1979, Sony invented the Walkman, creating a need for portable headphones. Created with the idea that headphones should be compact and lightweight, these headphones were sold separately as an accessory to the first-ever Walkman. They helped revolutionize the way people thought about listening to music on the go. -
The first in ear headphones
In-ear headphones, also known as in-ear monitors or canalphones, are small headphones with similar portability to earbuds that are inserted in the ear canal itself.
The iPod changed up the whole music universe. It became common to see people with a white cord running from their pocket to their ears multiple times a day. -
AirPods
AirPods are wireless Bluetooth earbuds created by Apple.
They were first released on December 13, 2016.
On March 20, 2019, Apple released the second generation AirPods.
Today it is the newest headphones and thousands of people are using it.
