Facebook was founded
Facebook was founded in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg, Eduardo Saverin, Dustin Moskovitz, Andrew McCollum, and Chris Hughes ("History of Facebook," n.d.).
They were all students at Harvard University. It was launched under URL thefacebook.com. Within 24 hours of launching about 1,200 students had signed up. Reference

The "wall" launched
In September 2004, Facebook launched the "wall"(McFadden, 2022). The wall allows users to post things and receive messages on their own page. The wall is a public area of a user's profile that the user's friends are able to see. Reference

News feed introduced
In September 2006, anyone could join Facebook. At first, News feed launched, now users could see all of their friends' updates. Users were outraged because all the actions they took on Facebook were visible to all their friends. Legal case against Mark Zuckerberg
In 2008, a case against Mark Zuckerberg, twins Cameron, Tyler Winklevoss and Divya Narendra was settled for $65 million in cash and Facebook stock. They accused Zuckerberg of using their ideas to build Facebook instead of their own ventures, which was an agreement they made with Zuckerberg at Havard (McFadden, 2022). References

Messenger was launched
In August 2011, Facebook launched Messenger. Messenger is an instant messaging service. You can communicate, send videos,or pictures to one person or a group of people on Messenger. Messenger supports audio and video calls and you can send money via Messenger (Moreau, n.d.). Reference

Facebook buys Instagram
In 2012, Facebook buys Instagram . Zuckerberg bought Instagram because it was becoming a threat to Facebook. He bought Instagram for $1 billion. Instagram has over a billion users and contributes over $20 billion to Facebook's annual revenue (Ians, 2022). Reference

Fake Russian Accounts
In 2016, during the presidential election, Facebook was accused of allowing fake Russian Facebook accounts to purchase hundreds of thousands of dollars in paid ads to spread propaganda. The accusations caused damage to the public attitude towards Facebook (McFadden, 2022). Reference

Cambridge Analytica Scandal
In 2018, Facebook was engulfed in the Cambridge Analytica Scandal. The data firm was improperly using personal data of Facebook users to create psychological profiles of them for political use (McFadden, 2022). This led to Zuckerberg being called to testify in Facebook's defense before the U.S. Congress in April 2018. Reference
