The S-Bend Corset
Fashion in the 1900s was the turning point. The S-Bend corset was the last corset style to be worn underneath blouses and skirts. Women even wore their corsets while riding their bikes! Also, during this decade, casual clothing came into being. Women could now wear sweaters and long skirts instead of dresses. It was a big change! -
The Hobble Skirt
The skirts of these skirts go slightly past the ankles. Women would show off their lace-up boots with these higher hemlines. Sometimes, these skirts were tight around the ankles and made walking really hard, so this trend did not last. -
Flapper Style
The roaring 20s was the ultimate party decade and women's clothing depicted this! The dresses were shorter, more colorful, ornately beaded, and full of fringe! Patterns were also big in this time period. Gingham, plaid, stripes, and different color blocking were seen on almost every woman. Coco Chanel introduced the little black dress in this decade. Chanel made black chic. -
Movie Era
During the 1930s films greatly impacted women’s fashion. Glitz and glamour were big in this decade and women wore long slender fitting gowns. During this time, women also grew their hair much longer than they did in the 1920s and started using curling irons. -
The Effects of War
Fashion in the 1940s was greatly impacted by war. Fabrics such as silk were harder to come by but now, nylon, cotton, and rayon were popularized. During this decade clothing became more casual and women started to wear pants on a daily basis. Also, two-piece swimsuits became popularized during this decade. -
The Decade of Femininity
Fashion, at this time, celebrated women's bodies. Dresses cinched women's waists and showed off their shape. It was the antithesis of women's wartime outfits in the prior decade. The hem was also shortened then, and shin or ankle-length dresses and skirts became popular during this decade. -
The Turning Point
The 1960s started off with very “classic” and “classy” fashion. Skirts were tailored and women started wearing high heels. Pants also became more common again in this decade. The second half of this decade led to the hippie movement. During this movement, women wore bell-bottom pants, with flowy fabrics, and crazy fun fabrics. -
Disco Fashion
Disco music and Studio 54 “cool girls” created a new style of wide-leg jeans and super high heels. Chokers, headbands, scarves, stones, feathers, and beaded jewelry were the “it” accessories. -
Age of Workout Videos
“Bright and tight” was the way women dressed during this decade. Exercise and Athleisure wear became super popular, and many styles were now sold in new bright neon colors. This was the decade that invented leggings! -
Influence of MTV
People wanted to dress like their favorite musicians! Women were seen wearing big baggy jeans, flannels, chokers, and anything and everything that was deemed grunge. Designer brands such as Versace, gas, and Tommy Hilfiger became incredibly popular in the 90s. This was also the decade that invented the supermodel. -
Paris Hilton
Paris Hilton influenced 2000s fashion in a multitude of ways. She was the one who popularized the juicy couture terry cloth tracksuit. She was also known for rocking bare midriffs, extremely short miniskirts, logo-heavy T-shirts, bags, and of course the trucker hat. I speak another style that was in during this decade was asymmetrical headlines. This was seen in many dresses and skirts. -
Skinny Jeans
Skinny jeans were the "it" style in this decade. Not only were the jeans skintight but they were what is known as a jegging material meaning unlike a traditional pair of jeans, which are 100% cotton these jeans have a mix of cotton and spandex making them more comfortable.
