Hip Hop Fashion
In the first half of the 2000s people wore baggy shirts, jerseys, and jeans for the guys and tight jeans and spegghetti straped shirts for the girls with hooded sweaters also. Phatfarm shoes and hightops were also very popular. The 2000s were very "fadish" and there was a lot of quick changes in fashion, so this description may not apply to everyone at the time. Twin towers were hit at 9:03 and 8:46 A.M by planes which had been hijacked causing both towers to collapse by late morning. Another hijacked plane crashed into the pentagon, and another one crashed into a field in Penslyvania, people assume it was on its way to Washington. 2995 casualties were tallied in total. Later that day it was discovered to be Al Queda and Osama Bin Laden that were responsible for the attacks, which were then announced as terrorist attacks -

2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake Utah U.S.A
Canada was awarded 7 gold, 3 silver, and 7 bronze medals (a total of 17 medals). This was the big hockey year where Wayne Gretzsky hid the "lucky loonie" under the ice. Both Canadian hockey teams (women's and men's) ended up winning gold. Also our figure skating pairs, Jamie Salé and David Pelletier also won gold after the controversy over this event. -

American Idol made it's debut on June 11th 2002. This became one of the most popular TV shows in the 2000s. This show caused other shows like it to come along, for example So You Think You Can Dance and Britain's/America's Got Talent. -

This is another movie by Michael Moore based on the shooting at Columbine. It focused on the issue of gun control and violence in America and compared it to Canada and other countries. -

SARS concert in Toronto
This was a concert held by the Rolling Stones to help revive the economy in Toronto after the SARS outbreak. Because of the outbreak many people didn't wish to go to tourist sites and attractions therefore causing Toronto's economy to go down. This concert helped the economy by having a huge concert attracting 450,000-500,000 people. -
Black out
Massive power outage occured after a busy Ohio plant shut down because part of its service area was blocked by trees. This cause a snowball effect, as that plant shut down, it put more pressure on another plant, which then shut down, and then another etc. Eventually much of Ontario and some Northern states were left powerless for a large amount of time -

Canada recieved 3 gold, 6 silver, and 3 bronze medals (a total of 12). Adam van Koeverden won a gold and a bronze medal in canoeing and the mens fours in rowing won silver. Also, Kyle Shewfelt won a gold medal in his gymnastics floor routine. This is the same person who injured both of his legs before the 2008 Olympic Games. -

2006 Winter Olympic Games in Torino Italy
We won 7 gold, 10 silver and 7 bronze medals (a total of 24) in these Olympic Games. This was Cindy Klassen's big year winning 5 medals including 1 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals in speed skating. The womens hockey team won gold once again and Jeffrey Buttle won a bronze medal in mens figur skating. This was big because he was not favoured to win and figure skating is not Canada's strong subject. -

2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing China
We won 3 gold, 9 silver, and 6 bronze medals (a total of 18) in these Olympics. There were two really big records broken in these Olympic Games. Michael Phelps (an American swimmer) broke the record of most gold medals won by a single person. He won 8 gold medals in total. Usain Bolt also beat the record for fastest 100m (9.69s) and 200m (19.30s). The last record for 100m was held by a Canadian. Our big event was mens eights who won a gold in rowing. -
