The conflict between the North and South was rising,and war was trying to be avoided,but ultimultly war was in the future. -
The Constitutional Convention
The delegates were trying to balance the Federal governments power and the states power. This took alot of thinking ,disscussing ,and hard work. -
Missouri Compromise
The Missouri compromise was Missouri wanted to become a slave state but then then south would have more power so the government had Maine become a free state and Missouri could become a slave state to balance power. -
Economic Issues
The North had free labor and the South had slave labor. -
1850 Compromise
The U.S.A needed a compromise. The south was upset with the north because they wanted to addmit California as a free state even though it was below the boundry line, so th government had to make both sides happy. They did this by admitting California as a free state, then they made a law that said that slaves could not be sold in Washington D.C. They also said that Utah and Mexico could vote whether or not they wanted to be a slave state or a free state, then they passed the Fugitive Slave act. -
The Undeground Railroad
A network of safe houses and barns that helped and provided many things to help the slaves make it to freedom. -
Kansas Nebraska Act
In 1854 the Kansas Nebraska Act was passed Kansas and Nebraska both wanted to become a state,and Kansas had a choice if they wanted to become a slave state.So people who believed in slavery rushed to Kansas becuase they wanted Kansas to be a slave state.And people who belived in freedom rushed to Kansas becuase they wanted Kansas to be a free state. -
Fugitive Slave Act
The Fugitive Slave Act was passed to make sure that runaway slaves would not be free when they reached the North, and that all runay slaves if caught by officials would have to be returned to their owner. that ment that slaves had to make it all the way to Canada to be free. -
John Brown Leading African Americans To Revolt
John Brown was an abolonist. He did not agree with slavery. As a result of his belifs he and his sons and many other people led slaves to revolt. He and the other people were caught. As the leader of the revolt he was punished harshly and hanged. Most of his parnters were killed in action and all the ones that were captured were hanged along with John Brown, but some escaped including his last son and he was never captured. -
Abraham Licoln Elected as President
In 1860 Abraham Lincoln was elected president and said he wasn't going to mess with slavery in the states that it was already in, but he would prevent it from coming into any other states. -
Civil War Starts
In 1861 the Confederate attacked on Abraham Lincoln's fedaral fort,Fort Suntner. -
The South seceded From The U.S.A
In 1861 the South seceded from the U.S.A and became the Confederate Country.
