Several European countries settled to produce an organisation to strengthen cooperation between the countries of Europe. -
Robert Shuman
The ideas were current by Robert Shuman, French minister of Foreign Affairs, in a lecture on the 9th May 1950. -
Six European countries
In 1951, six European countries ( Belgium, France , Italy , the Netherlands, west Germany and Luxembourg) produce the European coal and steal communuty. -
Treaties of Rome
In 1957 they marked the Treaties of Rome, which estabilished the European Economic Community and the European Atomic Energy Community. Since its base in 1957 the EU has expanded from six member countries to twenty-eight, in successive enlargements. -
