    In early 1851 the New South Wales government announced that gold had been discovered near Bathurst by Edward Hargreaves and John Lister Tom. In June 1851 the Victorian government also reported discoveries of gold. There was a massive population increase due to people wanting to get gold

    To get the funds higher, Governor La Trobe made a fee which costed 30 shillings a month to be on the mining fields. This was the start of massive backlash from the miners

    Many conflicts happened on the mining fields. The police were being brutal and it was getting tough just to get by.

    There was the murder of James Scobie in the Eureka hotel because of these gold conflicts and many retaliated by burning down the hotel

    The miners meet at Bakery hill after the Governor Hotham sent troops to Ballarat to keep peace to make the Eureka Stockade to fight back and get their rights
  • The Battle at Eureka Stockade

    The Battle at Eureka Stockade
    Governor Hotham sent over 300 troops to the Stockade at 3am on December 3rd while there were only 150 miners at the stockade that lead to a 25 minute fight which with at least 22 miners including one woman and five soldiers losing their lives. Over 120 Miners survived
