    Enlightenment ideas caused the industrial revolution by making the philosophers and great thinkers of the time think smarter, not harder, so they did exactly that, they made steam engines, cotton gyns, power looms, and the telegraph; resulting in the enhancement and change of peoples lifestyles; which lead to all of the new technologies that we have in today's society.

During the revolution great thinkers like Joel Mokyr and other people who were creating and thinking of new philosophies, just like people were inventing new technologies.

    "important developments in transportation and communication, including the steam locomotive, steamship, automobile, airplane, telegraph, and radio, and (6) the increasing application of science to industry."(Britannica) During the industrial Revolution people like Robert Fulton, John Stevens, and George Stephenson helped progress the technologies in transportation in railroads, and transportation overall. Which lead to the cars, trains, and boats we have in todays society.

(Britannica) Many factories during this revolution were being made all around the U.S. Because of all the new factories being made they were able to produce so many more goods to ship to supermarkets, stores, and other countries to make more money.

    “Joel Mokyr argues that aspects of the Scientific Revolution merged with elements of the Enlightenment, generating an “Industrial Enlightenment”” (Britannica) Joel Mokyr said that the scientific revolution met with the ideas of the enlightenment ideas. After the technologies and the ideas of the enlightenment thinkers merged it became the industrial revolution.

    “Enlightenment philosophy then intensified the Industrial Revolution by changing the British political system and guiding its deliberations.” (Merchants and Mechanics) Enlightenment philosophy made the industrial revolution more well known to other philosophers around the world. It even reached places in Britain.

    “People like Adam Smith thought of new ideas for inventions from about 1870 onwards, new technologies were often based on advances in scientific knowledge. Before that time, and in particular during the Industrial Revolution, the connection between science and technology was tenuous” (Merchants and Mechanics) Adam Smith was a great thinker of the industrial revolution. He made many technological advancements, and help invent many of the technologies that we have upgraded and are using today.

    “At the time of the Industrial Revolution, one of the most respected advocates of scientific methodology was Francis Bacon (1561-1626).” (Merchants and Mechanics) Francis Bacon popularized the scientific method which in laws of science are discovered by gathering and analyzing data from experiments and observations, rather than by using logic-based arguments.

    “Many of the technologies of the Industrial Revolution were developed by exactly this sort of person — James Watt, John Smeaton, Josiah Wedgwood and Isambard Kingdom Brunel being prominent examples.” (Merchants and Mechanics) All of the people in the industrial revolution such as James Watt, John Smeaton, Josiah Wedgwood and Isambard Kingdom Brunel played a big role in the revolution because of their enlightenment ideas on new technologies to make life easier for the people back then.
