The enlightenment in the 18th century
The Enlightenment is the focus of rational thinking.In the 1700's kings, queens and churches were the teachers and rulers of Europe, society would always look up to them for anything.Isaac Newton experienced something strange to him,he started to think about it and figuered out that everything that goes up must come down. Thats when the enlightenment occured, kings, queens and churches started to lose societies intrest and people became more independant for them and their families. -
Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution was a period from the 18th to the 19th century where major changes in agriculture, manufacturing, mining, transport, and technology happened. The first Industrial Revolution, which began in the 18th century, merged into the Second Industrial Revolution around 1850, when technological and economic progress gained momentum with the development of steam-powered ships, railways, and later in the 19th century. -
Captain Cook's Discovery
Captain Cook was born in 1728 and perished in 1779. At the age of 17, James joined the merchant navy, James Cook spent his early years working on trading ships on the english coast. In the year 1770 James Cook took a long voyage in search of new land. James discovered the east coast of Australia, the indiginious people were not fond of Captain Cook.As he claimed that he established and owned the land. -
Convicts in the 18th Century
In Australia the First Fleet arrived in Port Jackson on 26th January 1788. There was 1332 people on board 736 were convicts. Over the eight month voyage 23 perished.
On the first fleet it was thought that 60 percent of the convicts were sentenced for stealing small items such as food. Many convicts escaped being hung as their penalty, instead being sent to seven year of transportation. The youngest convict on board the first fleet was a nine year orphan named john Hudson. -
The Second Fleet
The second fleet arrived in New South Whales on the 28th june 1790. All Convicts on borad were transported as a type of penalty for their crimes, crimes such as theft. Many escaped being hung, instead being sentenced to seven year transportaion. The second fleet was a disaster compared to the first fleet, 258 Convicts perished before reaching Austalia. Between 1788 and 1868 aproximently 16500 convicts had been transported to other colonies in Australia. -
Free Settlers To Australia
In 1793 on the 16th of january roughly 12 free settlers were wealthy enough to take the long voyage departing from England and arriving in Australia. A lot of unmarried,unwealthy men were atracted to the wide ooen spaces of Australian land,and dreamed to owning enough land to become wealthy.In 1838 over 6000 Free Settlers had arrived to Australia. -
The start of WW1
World war started, When world war one was declared, men strait away wanted to enlist to say that they served for their counties and to impress women, otherwise woman would send men a white feather meaning they were a coward. Russia, Italy, Britain, France and Greece were allies and Germany, Austria-Hungary and Turkey were allies. By the end of World war one there were on 8.5 million men dead and over 21 million Casualties. -
Assassantaion Archduke Franz Ferdinand
On the 28th June Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife were assassinated. The 28th of June was their wedding anniversery, The Archduke was murdered because Austria-Hungary took over a small piece of Serbian land. A Serbian terriost gang the 'Black Hand' were not happy about this and wanted Ferdinand dead. Gavrilo Princip shot Franz in the neck and Sophie his wife in the Stomach, Princip was then sentenced to life in prison but soon later died from tuberculosis, this declared WW1. -
The Battle of Somme
The Battle of Somme was fought between Germany and two allies France and Britain. The Battle of Somme was fought on the Northern coast of France near the River Somme, The battle lasted over a period of 5 months starting on the 1st of July and ended on the 13th of November. Over 280 thousand German men died. The French and British won a small amount of land but their casualty rate was so high, together they lost of 620 thousand men.
