Anglo-Saxon Invasion - 5th century
The British Isles were invaded by Saxons, Angles and Jutes, those invaders made a clear cut, and therefore almost obliterating the languages spoken before the invasion. Because of the invasion, the language devolped into what we know as 'English' -

As a result of an invasion by the Normans, the people spoke french. The English/Norman king, his nobles and the elite spoke English. And lastly the clergy, bishops and priests spoke Latin. England had now become a trilangual nation. -

1476 was a crucial year for the history of the English language due to William Caxton setting up the first printing press. Now making a book wouldn't take months of hard work to do. Even though the printing press was a useful invention, did the printing run into a problem. The problem was, that there were a big diversity in terms of vocabulary, punctuation, spelling etc. -
