Ronald E. Dahl, M.D. and Daniel S. Lewin, Ph. D. studied the effects of sleep loss on adolescents' emotion stability. They found that sleep loss correlates to adolescents having less control over their emotions, such as being more prone to crying when upset and feeling angrier than others would at frustrating situations.

Wolfson and Carskadon studied how adolescent sleep patterns affect how they do in school. They found that earlier bed/wake times and greater amounts of sleep lead to significantly higher grades. They reported that within their study, each hour later a subject arose decucted that individual's GPA by .13 on a 4.0 scale.

Circadium rhythm was studied among adolescents, and results showed that when a person goes through puberty, their internal clock slows down, meaning they are functioning on a day-schedule longer than 24 hours. It was also reported that 50% of sleep related car crashes were caused by 16-25 year olds.

A study was conducted that shows that adolescents who got less than 8 hours of sleep had more body fat, a higher BMI, larger waist and hip cirmference, and a higher fat mass index.

Study was conducted that showed poor sleep in adolescents led to lower self esteem while making decisions, slower reaction times, and a higher liklihood of partaking in risk-taking behaviors.
