The portuguses voyages, led by prince henry, led to many positive outcomes for the Jews. More trade routes, maps, and scholars were needed, and the Jews provided them. -

Spanish Expulsion
After the expulsion, the Jews are now widespread and subject to someone else's rule. Since they were powerless, they needed an open-minded, diverse environment to become indispensable to the people around them. This was exactly what they needed. -
Gaonic Period
This is a period where important individuals take a huge part in. Saadia Gaon introduces this altering idea to his people to make Judaism survive- to become indispensable to the people around them. He made laws that people should do what everyone else doesn't do, but also what everyone else needs. This is one of the main reasons why Judaism survives today.
