    He was a senator from Wisconsin who got fame from aggressivly chargingthat communist were working in the U.S. government. He was also what started McCarthyism which was the name critics gave for tactic of spreading fear and making unnecessary chagres.

    Fear of communism gripped the nation in 1919, known as the red scare. Communist threatened the nation. The goverenment finally started to take it seriously.

    Hollywood 10
    They were writers and directors who were thought to be radicals and called before HUAC, they refused to cooperate and were sentenced to prison.

    HUAC
    This is a commitee formed in the House of Repersenitives in the 1930s to investigate radical groups in the U.S. it later came to focus on the threat of communism in the United States during WWII and Cold War.

  • The Yalta Conference

    The Yalta Conference
    Stalin, Roosevelt, and Churchill met again. This was also known as the big three. The goal was to discss the end of war and plans for peace. They agreed to divide Germany into 4 sections, one for each of the allies. (USSR, U.S., Great Britain, and France). Soviets get to take control of the eastern half of Germany.     This was a meeeting help among leaders of the Allies near the end of World War II. This was not a success. Truman hoped that he met with Stalin then he could get the Soviet leader to live up to his promises.

    Ho Chi Minh wanted to bring communism to South Vietnam. He made a group calld Vietminh. It was led by commmunist but anybody could become apart of that group.

    UN created
    50 countries met in California to creat an orgnaization called the united nations. This is similarto the league of nations, it encouraged cooperation among nations and to prevent future wars.
  • Marshall Plan

    Marshall Plan
    This was a plan for the reconstruction of Europe after World War II had ended. This gave Europe food and farming equipment. It also rebuilt factories and homes.

    The Truman Doctrine
    Truman promised that he would provide ecominic and military aid to cuntries threatened by communism. I dont know the exact date really. The year was 1947.

    This was an attempt to break the blockade. They flew food and supplies into West Berlin. They did this 327 days every few minutes a plane dropped off stuff.

    It was a response to a similar treaty in 1949. It was based on total equality of each nantion. It became a political tool for Soviet to harness its powers of combined military.

    THey make sure that we can walk around safe and free in our enviorment everyday. They are kind of like a security to our conutry. They promote democratic values. It was established shortly after WWII in 1949. I think it was sometime in September.

    It was a conflict between communist and uncommunist. Korea was divided into the 38th parrallel. North Korea invavded South Korea. Nobody actually won the Korean war. They signed a cease fire.

    CIA
    CIA stands for central intelligance agency. They made decisions about our conutrys security. They covered crisis, confrantations, and trends. It helped the cold war from becoming the hot war. ;) There is still a CIA today.

    The Vietnam was a very long and bloody war. It was part of Indochina. The United States supported South Vietnam and they kept sending them the resources that they would need. U.S. finally enters the war and then the war battles began. It was communist against democracy. The North Vietnam won the war and they had the power over Soh Vietnam.

    Castro was a communist leader of Cuba. He helped overhrow the cuban governement, after that he took total control over the country. He made it to where Cuba was the first communist nation in all of the western hempishpere.

    He was a strong anti-communist as well as nixon. Kennedy was president during the Bay of Pigs, Cuban Missle Crisis, Berlin Wall, and obviously some of the Cold War.

    The Bay of Pigs was an invasion in Cuba to overthrow their leader. But the plan had failed because the air planes did not show up and Cuba had found out about their plan and knew what they were going to do.

    The Berlin Wall divided West and East of Germany. It was also the boundary between democracy and communisn during the Cold War. The Berlin wall lasted from August of 1961 to November 1989.

    The Bay of Pigs is what cause Russia to send missiles. The United States set up embargo/blockade. This was the closest the world has ever came to a nuclear war.

    Its a series of major surprise attacks preformed by communist in South Vietnam. This was a turning point in the Vietnam War. The first attack was on Lunar Day which was Vietnams most important holiday.
  • Vietnaminization

    Vietnaminization
    This was a planned to end the Vietnam War that involved turning over the fighting to the South Vietnamese while U.S. troops gradually pulled out. Nixon called this "peace with honor". Nixon hoped this would give south vietnamese enough time ti create a stable anticommunist government. Nixon wanted to delay the collapse if this couldnt work so that they could avoid the apperance of an embarassing defeat.

    Antiwar demonstraters at Kent State set fire to Campus reserve officers training corps building. On may 4th tudents gathered for an antiwar rally. Some students were rude and threw rocks at the soldiers, soldiers began firing into the crowd.
