  • The Personal Computer

    In 1981, the computer was made public so that the public could use it to do what we now call essentials such as using PowerPoint or Word.
  • The Internet

    In 1983, ARPNET adopted the TCP/IP protocol that we currently use. Using this protocol ARPNET was transformed into what we now call the internet.
  • The NES

    In 1985, Nintendo released the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System), which became the most influential console of all time. Many Adults nowadays have at least once heard, seen or used this console before.
  • The Smartphone

    In 1992, the smartphone was released. A smartphone back then was just a bulky box with a screen and a small keyboard. Now, they don't have keyboards and have touchscreens! The smartphone has impacted our lives immensely!
  • The USB Port

    In 1996, the USB port was made, which is still used to this day! This port was made to be a replacement for all those different wires which you had to use. Instead, you were supposed to use just this one port. However, the USB port then got quite a few forks or different types ruining the whole concept.
  • Google

    In 1996, the Google search engine was made. The founder first searched the name Gerhard Casper, who was the president of Stanford at that time. Instead of getting results for Casper the Friendly Ghost, as he did on rival search engine AltaVista (founded in 1995), up popped links to the human being Gerhard Casper, the one he'd been hoping to find. Now, Google is the main search engine used globally along with its own web browser Chrome.
  • The Smartwatch

    In 1998, the first smartwatch was made, the Ruputer. Smartwatches are used to carry a phone on your wrist!
  • OLED

    In 1999, OLED (Organic LED) was developed, a brand new screen type. OLED enabled many things such as improved image quality - better contrast, higher brightness, fuller viewing angle, a wider colour range and much faster refresh rates, lower power consumption and a simpler design that enables ultra-thin, flexible, foldable and transparent displays.
  • SATA

    In 2000, the SATA was made, a new mean of storing data. SATA was made to replace the old PATA cables which used to be used. However, most computers nowadays use NVMe due to its high write speeds compared to SATA.
  • Facebook

    In 2004, Facebook was founded. Facebook has attracted a lot of attention over the years and has become a platform used to contact others in a community.
  • Twitter

    In 2006, Twitter was founded. Twitter is one of the main if not the main Social Media platform used today!
  • Instagram

    In 2010, Instagram was founded! Instagram is one of the main Social Media platforms used today!
  • Snapchat

    In 2011, Snapchat was founded. Snapchat is famous today for its filters used widely by its community!
  • The NVMe SSD

    In 2011, the NVMe SSD was made, An NVMe SSD (often referred to as NVMe) is one of the fastest SSD(s) in the world. With nearly every single OS in the world having active support for it.
  • SpaceX Falcon 9

    2015 was a big year for SpaceX. With it being the year where they successfully landed one of its orbital rocket boosters onto a remote landing pad in the middle of the ocean fully autonomously.
