Proclamation of 1763
This was passed after the French and Indian war in order to forbid all settlement past a line drawn along the Appalachian Mountains. Colonists were upset because many had planned planned on moving west after the war to move west. -
Sugar Act
This imposed new duties on sugar, rum, and molasses the British government began to tighten its reins on the colonies. The colonists protested against it. -
Stamp Act
This was the first tax imposed directly on American colonists by the British government. this was basically a tax on all paper documents in the colonies.The colonists resorted to mob violence. -
Concord and Lexington
The Battles of Lexington and Concord were the first military engagements of the American Revolutionary War. Many Colonists were upset about the acts. -
Townshend
This imposed taxes on glass,lead, paints, paper, and tea imported into the colonies. Townshend hoped this would defray imperial expenses in the colonies. Americans viewed this as an abuse of power so they limited imports from Britain. -
Boston Massacre
Shots were fired by British soldiers in the streets of Boston. The colonists were outraged and began spreading negative outbursts in the incident. -
Tea Act
This bill lowered the tax paid to the British government and it allowed them to sell tea more cheaply in the colonies. Colonists did not protest because they thought it was another tyranny taxation. -
Intolerable Acts
They were already upset about the Boston Tea party and other events so the British Parliament enacted the Intolerable Acts to outage American Patriots. This drive the colonists to call The First Continental Congress to form a resistance against the British oppression.
