Edmund Hillary's and Tenzing Norgay's Everest Expidition
At 11:30 a.m. on May 29, 1953 New Zealander Edmund Hillary and Nepalese Tenzing Norgay reached the top of Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world. It took them seven weeks to reach the summit. For a while, Mount Everest seemed to be unclimbable by some people and the ultimate climbing challenge. -

In Saint Peter's Square, 1981, Turkish terrorist Mehmet Ali Agca took an attempt to kill the Pope, John Paul II. In a crowd of around 20,000 the Pope was shot three times and two more people were injured. Agca was arrested and John Paul II was rushed out of the car to a nearby hospital. After a six hour long surgery he survived and made a miraculous recovery. -
